Prospective speakers are invited to submit an abstract or proposal for the 2017 PURCO SA Conference. The Conference will be held at the East London International Convention Centre where attendees will enjoy a variety of activities, workshops and exhibitions. The conference will be held over three days, with exhibitions from suppliers and presentations from keynotes speakers.

The Conference Theme

The Eastern Cape gave South Africa a proud heritage of leaders. Nelson Mandela, Enoch Sontonga, Robert Sobukwe, Govan Mbeki, Steve Biko, Walter Sisulu and Chris Hani are among the heroes whose roots were nourished by the soil of the Eastern Cape.

In this birthplace of legends we see the potential of the ideals of justice and economic development that are the foundation of our country - yet social and economic inequality remain entrenched in our society through structural disadvantage and self interest.

Higher education procurement teams, in the execution of their duties and as drivers of the business imperatives of their institutions, have a unique opportunity to transform our economic landscape.

Procurement professionals and their institutions hold a powerful key to meaningful transformation through supplier and enterprise development. The PURCO SA Conference seeks to empower them with a platform of knowledge and contacts to create a measurable impact on their strategic and operational business objectives, while contributing to the imperatives of social change.

In addition to delivering tools to help delegates drive change in their own institutions, we will examine enterprise development as a key foundation of economic and social capital, as well as individual and community empowerment.

The overarching theme of the 2017 Conference is a focus on unlocking business value for our delegates’ institutions and their supply chain partners through a focus on supplier and enterprise development, innovation and transformation.

The PURCO SA Annual Conference is a microcosm of the rich heritage and diversity that makes the Eastern Cape region unique. We believe that attending the 2017 Conference in the birthplace of legends will enable our delegates to emulate those heroes in transforming their institutions, their supply chains, and their communities.

Transformative presentations and workshops will include issues such as:

  • Enterprise and supplier development as drivers of procurement success;
  • Integrating enterprise development into your supply chain to the bene t of your institutional objectives;
  • Practical lessons, challenges and successes in implementing traditional and e-procurement;
  • BEE is your business - implementing supplier and enterprise development in Higher Ed. institutions;
  • Using social media to collaborate and drive procurement innovation;
  • Finding common purpose between buyers and suppliers;
  • Upskilling current and future generations of procurement professionals.
  • Government’s legislative and policy plans, including the regulations and the POPI Act.
